Born, raised and currently living in Creede, Colorado, located in the southern Rockies. My passion for fly fishing started at a very young age, thanks in part to my father, Kevin Leggitt, who has owned the local fly shop, Rio Grande Angler, for over 21 years.
I started guiding in 2019 and am going into my fourth year for RGA. I’m an easy going guide who gets excited about catching trout, especially with dry flies. While having a good time and catching fish are our goal, the proper release and care of our aquatic friends is of equal importance. I’ve fished the Rio my entire life and, naturally, I have become very fond of the fish, wildlife and the ecosystem in which they play a part in. The continued sustainable use and protection of these ecosystems have been and always will be of upmost importance to me.
Creede and the surround area offers outstanding trout fishing on the Rio Grande and its tributaries. Top water action on the river is available through our early summer months and peaks during our salmon fly hatch, sometime in June. Most of our tributaries offer dry fly fishing all the way through August and sometimes into September. Late season on the Rio Grande, late July to September, we are forced to switch to double nymph rigs, this is the time of year is when I like targeting the Rio’s bigger fish. Once floats become impossible, I switch to wading trips where I like to chase down the last of the dry fly eating fish on our smaller creeks.
